About Peter Thorpe Consulting

The Consultancy is led by Peter Thorpe, whose major strenth is that he is able to act as an Independent Intermediary by offering in-depth knowledge of local government, coupled with first-hand experience of working within an IT supplier. Peter Thorpe is a Chartered Town Planner who has very broad local government experience gained over 20 years in Town Planning, Corporate Planning, Consultancy and IT roles. Whilst with his last Authority, Birmingham City Council, he was Head of the Chief Executive's Central Intelligence Unit, also acting as Personal Assistant to the Chief Executive, then Head of Computing Unit within the Development Department (covering Planning, Building Control, Property Management and Economic Development functions). For the following 6 years prior to setting up Peter Thorpe Consulting in 1994, he was Principal Local Government Business Consultant with Bull Information Systems Limited, specialising in Land and Property issues and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). He is an active participant in a number of professional groups associated with IT, GIS and the development of standards, and has an established network of contacts in the IT/GIS industry, local government and the professions.

The Consultancy, through its Associate Consultants, is able to provide extensive technical consultancy on IT, GIS, Internet & Intranet applications, and to undertake larger projects such as strategic reviews.
